Discover the power and emotion of Signed Singing
with Paul Whittaker OBE.
Join Stoke Sings on Saturday 25th April 2026,
from 10am to 3pm.

In this fun workshop we will explore how British Sign Language (BSL) can express the lyrics, emotion and music of a song.
It’s a whole new way of exploring and experiencing music!
No previous experience necessary – just come along and enjoy the day.

To cover the costs of the event we suggest a ticket price of £10.
Please pay a bit more if you can afford to.
This will help to support Stoke Sings and to make it easier for people on a lower income to take part.

About Paul
Born in Huddersfield in 1964, Paul has been profoundly deaf all his life yet pursued a career as a Musician.
A Pianist and Organist, he has a music degree and a postgraduate performance diploma.
In 1988 he founded “Music and the Deaf”, a charity to help deaf people enjoy music.
Paul began giving signed theatre performances in 1992, working on shows such as Les Miserables, Cats, Phantom Of The Opera, West Side Story, Carousel, My Fair Lady, and many more. He has also signed for The Sixteen Choir, Rambert Dance Company, Opera North, and at the Edinburgh International and Aldeburgh Festivals. In 2010, he gave the first ever signed BBC Prom – Sondheim at 80.

Paul is passionate about signed song and in 2017, he set up SiBSL – Songs in British Sign Language dedicated to raising standards and awareness of the art form.
He also runs 4 signing choirs in the North of England.
